The best programmatic SEO courses to level up your SEO knowledge

Google “SEO course” and you’ll find plenty of options covering everything from keyword research to link building. But when it comes to programmatic SEO (pSEO) specifically, course offerings are surprisingly scarce.

The lack of pSEO-specific curriculum reflects a few factors. For one, pSEO is still a niche within the search industry, and not as widely understood as traditional editorial SEO. Along the same lines, its reputation as a highly technical subset of SEO means there are fewer practitioners and experts who can confidently teach it.

Despite being less conspicuous within the broader content marketing world, however, pSEO can be a game-changing strategy for driving organic traffic at scale. If you’re looking to learn programmatic SEO, we’ve rounded up the best courses and educational resources available below. Keep reading to find out which materials may be best for you based on your current knowledge and experience.

Don’t have time to invest in pSEO courses? No matter what vertical you’re in, daydream can help build an end-to-end programmatic strategy for your business.

daydream’s Complete Guide to Programmatic SEO

While not a formal course, our free 10,000-word guide is one of the most comprehensive resources on pSEO available today. daydream CEO Thenuka Karunaratne co-wrote it with Branko Kral, who previously led growth for Backlinko and Traffic Think Tank. In addition to their SEO expertise, our guide includes insights and contributions from top search experts and veterans like Brian Dean, Jordan Koene, and Eli Schwartz (who happens to be a daydream investor).

Consider using our guide as a starting point to build foundational knowledge of programmatic SEO, and then deciding if a structured course is necessary for your learning journey. Depending on your background, you may find that the guide and additional resources on daydream’s site provide enough context to start executing pSEO strategies right away. Alternatively, you may decide to hone in on more specific topics within pSEO, e.g., automation.

In addition to our guide, we also offer in-depth playbooks and case studies that showcase real-world pSEO execution and results—perfect for understanding the full potential of pSEO and getting ideas for strategic execution. Here are a few of our top playbooks to get inspiration and tactical know-how from:

CXL’s Programmatic SEO Course

This two-hour course from CXL, taught by SEO consultant Logan Bryant, covers on-page, on-site, and programmatic SEO. However, pSEO is only a single lesson within the broader SEO curriculum rather than its central focus. For this reason, this course is more ideal for content marketing novices than those looking for an in-depth pSEO education. Consider taking it to get a hang of the basics—but you’ll likely need further training to become more comfortable with developing and executing a pSEO strategy.

About the course creator: CXL, founded by Peep Laja in 2011, is a leading marketing education platform known for its rigorously researched and actionable content. This particular SEO course is taught by Logan Bryant, a B2B SEO specialist who previously led the fintech company Tipalti’s inbound demand generation efforts.

Programmatic SEO by Lazarina Stoy & Traffic Think Tank

Lazarina Stoy’s pSEO course offers more than four hours of video lessons as well as interviews with three pSEO experts (Ryan Prior, Nick Eubanks, and Anna Uss). It’s available through Traffic Think Tank, which was acquired by Semrush in 2023.

Unlike the previously mentioned course from CXL, this course is designed for marketers who already have a solid understanding of traditional SEO and want to integrate automation and data science into their workflows. To that end, it is entirely focused on pSEO, with highly specific lessons like “Content Automation Techniques For Programmatic SEO” and “No-code Programmatic SEO via Zapier.” You can access the course and many other courses about SEO and marketing with a Traffic Think Tank subscription.

About the course creator: Traffic Think Tank is an online education community that provides SEO-focused curricula and connects members via a private Slack workspace. Its pSEO course is taught by Lazarina Stoy, an organic marketing consultant who specializes in SEO, machine learning, and automation. Lazarina’s teaching credentials run deep—besides her course with Traffic Think Tank, she also founded MLforSEO, an academy devoted to teaching marketers how to leverage AI and automation for search optimization.

Practical Programmatic by Ian Nuttall

Practical Programmatic is a comprehensive video-based course and perhaps one of the earliest resources dedicated to all things programmatic SEO. Topics include keyword research, data gathering, automation workflows, and indexing content. The course is especially ideal for those without coding experience, as Practical Programmatic focuses on no-code approaches and how to leverage AI for pSEO execution.

However, one downside is the lack of a peer community or direct instructor support. In this way, Practical Programmatic is best suited for self-directed learners. It’s available as a one-time purchase—unlike Traffic Think Tank and CXL’s subscription-based pricing—so you can go through it at your own pace.

About the course creator: Ian Nuttall is a marketing expert and entrepreneur who’s grown multiple online businesses using programmatic SEO and AI-driven content. His websites and tools, including the SEO platforms Keyword Metrics and URL Monitor, have been acquired for six- and seven-figure sums.

No-Code Programmatic SEO Hub

Originally developed by David Holt as a Webflow-focused pSEO course, the No-Code Programmatic SEO Hub is a Notion-based course and resource library with more than four hours of video lessons. It was launched in early 2023 before getting acquired by Ian Nuttall, mentioned earlier as the creator of Practical Programmatic. Because of this, the No-Code Programmatic SEO Hub now also includes material from Practical Programmatic. It’s ideal for SEO practitioners who want to leverage no-code tools, making it an accessible entry point for beginners that don’t have technical expertise.

About the course creator: David Holt is a graphic designer and self-described indie hacker who didn’t let the lack of programming skills deter him from wading into pSEO. His first pSEO project was a Shopify app directory created using Webflow and Airtable.
